THUNDER BAY – At around 10:30 PM Thunder Bay Fire Rescue along with Thunder Bay Police, Ontario Provincial Police and the Canadian Coast Guard were called to Shipyard road where it was reported that two rescue flares were seen beyond the break wall.
The Canadian Coast Guard dispatched C130 Rescue Hercules from Winnipeg to search the area beyond the break wall. The aircraft made multiply passes using infrared technology and no one was found to be in distress.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue cannot stress enough that rescue flares are for emergencies only and using them improperly can cause unnecessary hazards to rescuers
