Fire in Bearskin Lake Destroys NAPS Detachment

BEARSKIN LAKE FN – A fire in Bearskin Lake First Nation has destroyed the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service station.

The fire happened on Sunday, March 15, 2020, at approximately 2:00 pm (CST), a building fire was discovered by police at the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service Bearskin Lake Detachment and the fire resulted in a complete loss of the police detachment. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation; however, arson is not suspected at this time. There have not been any reported injuries as a result of the fire. There were no people in custody at the time of the fire.

The current realities with regard to limited resources due to the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus will today affect any estimations on the completion of both the investigation and the opening date of the new detachment that is currently under construction.
