TAMPA – SPORTS – The World Wrestling Entertainment says, “In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place”. But the WWE is still going forward with the company’s premier event only as a television broadcast on the company’s WWE Network and as a pay-per-view.
WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5, 2020, at 7 pm ET on the WWE Network and will be available on pay-per-view.
The company says, “Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania.”
What does Devon Nicholson Have to Say on Wrestlemania Decision
Devon “Hannibal” Nicholson, the genius behind The Hanniblal TV on Youtube tells NetNewsLedger, “It’s not going to be as entertaining of a show having Wrestlemania 36 in front of no fans. At WWE’s Wrestling school next month however I don’t think they had much of a choice but to go through with it as they’ve been promoting the event for months”.
“All their creative has been leading up to that particular date,” comments Nicholson. “They have sponsors for the event such as Snickers and will get PPV revenue, they will loss more money fully canceling the event”.
“Also if they were to postpone until June as some people were thinking they might whose to say things will be back to normal by June and they’d still have to issue refunds anyway with a postponed date. Up to this point for the last several weeks things have been getting worst by the day panic wise due to the health situation and there is no way to precisely predict when things will stop”.
“WWE have other PPV’s coming up such as Summerslam in the summer to worry about. WWE has huge revenue’s coming in from TV rights and a big Saudi Arabia event deal having no crowd at Wrestlemania will not affect them too much financially,” Nicholson says. “It will effect the smaller companies more who were planning events around Wrestlemania weekend such as Wrestlecon”.
Cancelling Events Has an Impact
My The Hannibal TV channel, for example, was supposed to have a table at that event and we had 3 flights booked to Tampa and a total of 8 nights hotel room at $199 USD a night at the Wrestlecon Marriott Tampa Hotel that thus far the hotel has refused to refund us and we did have to pay change fees on 2 of the 3 flights we had going there”.
“One of them has still not been refunded so this situation is bad for small businesses like mine. I had an LA and AZ interview trip planned for next week that also got canceled and it doesn’t appear I’m going to get fully refunded on the prepaid travel costs for that either so I’m personally feeling the financial sting from this situation!”
