THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s basketball team suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Laurier Golden Hawks Saturday night at the Thunderdome.
The Golden Hawks walked away from the OUA Wilson Cup quarter-final match-up with a 68-64 win over the Thunderwolves, eliminating the Thunder Bay squad from the playoffs.
“Tough way to finish an otherwise successful season,” said head coach Ryan Thomson.
“It would have been great to go out with a few more wins for Isaiah, Kevin and Quincy.”
Freshman guard Laoui Msambya led the Thunderwolves with 19 points, while Lock Lam recorded another double-double, finishing the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Isaiah Traylor and Alston Harris each finished the night with 11 points for the Thunderwolves.
The Laurier bench was led by Ali Sow, who collected 27 points for the Golden Hawks. The Golden Hawks were led defensively by Kemel Archer, who grabbed 12 rebounds to help secure his team’s trip to the OUA Wilson Cup semi-finals.
While the Thunderwolves men’s basketball season has come to a close, the Golden Hawks will look for their third straight upset when they face the Western Mustang in the semi-finals on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.
