Collision Leads to Impaired Charges for Fort Frances Man

Impaired Driving numbers are up in Thunder Bay. What should be done?

FORT FRANCES, ON – Shortly before 1:00 am on February 7, 2020 members of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to investigate a collision.

The driver was transported to the Fort Frances Detachment where a Drug Recognition Expert conducted a 12 step systematic evaluation. After performing poorly on the evaluation, Richard Maki (22) of Fort Frances has been charged criminally with:

  • Operate Conveyance while ability impaired by drugs or alcohol.

The OPP is committed to safety for all who utilize Ontario’s roadways. Members of the public are urged to report Impaired Driving by calling 911 in emergency situations. Complaints of impaired, aggressive or careless driving can also be made by calling 1-888-310-1122.
