THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue was busy Friday night. At approximately 10:00 pm on January 31, 2020 firefighters were called to structural fire in the east end of the city at Connolly St and McLaughlin St.
The first arriving unit encountered heavy flames and smoke at the rear of the two-floor structure so they quickly advanced the line to get water onto the flames and prevent an exposure fire.
A neighboring duplex sustained some exposure damage due to the heat created by the large fire.
The four main floor tenants evacuated through the front door while the second floor tenants were trapped by the fire so they had to be rescued using the front windows while being taken down the ladder by firefighters.
A mother with two small children escaped with no injuries but was cared for and monitored by the waiting EMS personnel. Firefighters then completed a search of the entire structure to determine if there were any other occupants. None were found.
The fire is under investigation by both TBFRS and City of Thunder Bay Police Services.
TBFRS want to remind you that home fire escape plans need to be practiced so everyone in your home knows what to do in the event of an emergency.
