OTTAWA – POLITICS – Candice Bergen, House Leader for Canada’s Official Opposition and Member of Parliament for Portage – Lisgar, released the following statement regarding the Trudeau Liberal cabinet retreat:

“Western Canadians sent Justin Trudeau a clear message in the last election that his tax hikes, anti-energy legislation and increased operating costs for farmers are unacceptable. Now, Trudeau is bringing his team to Winnipeg in an effort to show he’s listening.

“If this is to be a sincere effort, the Trudeau Liberals should meet directly with Manitobans to understand how their policies are making life more difficult.

“Instead of meeting behind closed doors for three days looking for new ways to raise taxes and double down on their failed policies, Cabinet should listen to groups like the Keystone Agriculture Producers’ and the Wheat Growers of Canada, to understand the impact of their carbon tax. They should update canola producers on market access in China. And they should provide local municipalities with clear timelines on when funding for key infrastructure projects will flow.

“My Conservative colleagues and I will continue to use our strengthened opposition to ensure that the Trudeau Liberals understand our way of life so they can change course on policies that are hurting our region.”
