THUNDER BAY – ENTERTAINMENT – After months of weekly competitions across five different venues around town, the finalists for Drop the Mic TBAY Karaoke Contest are hitting the Magnus Theatre main stage on Saturday, January 11th.
The top 10 finalists will be battling it out for major bragging rights and the top prize of $1500, sponsored by Teleco. The two runners up will also be awarded cash prizes. All contestants will have the chance to take the stage and give it their all to impress the judges for the top spot.
The first karaoke contest of its kind in Thunder Bay, Drop the Mic is a fundraising event organized by Magnus Theatre in partnership with City Wide Sound. Proceeds will be used to support Magnus Theatre’s growing array of programming.
The winner will be selected by the judges after three rounds of eliminations. The judges are Magnus Theatre’s artistic director Thom Currie, professional actor and vocalist Amy Sellors, and frontman Ryan MacDonald of The Honest Heart Collective. Spencer Hari will be the evening’s MC. Contestants will be scored on vocal talent, originality, stage presence, and overall impression.
The contest has been taking place in tournament style since late October, with the top 10 finalists having been selected from events at The Foundry, The Bar, The Itai, The Fastlane, and The Royalton.
“We’re really excited to be hosting this event,” says Thom Currie. “We’ve seen some incredible talent over these past few months and to see these top performers compete on the Magnus stage will be a great night of fun for audiences and contestants and will bring something a little different to the city.”
The biggest karaoke event of the year hits the Magnus Theatre stage on Saturday, January 11th, 2020. Doors open at 7 pm with an 8 pm show start.
