Charges Laid in Highway 61 Vehicle Collision

Driver involved in overpass collision identified and charged

THUNDER BAY – On November 5, 2019, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a vehicle collision on Highway 61.The collision occurred at the Canadian National (CN) overpass bridge as an unknown vehicle struck the bridge causing structural damage.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators and the OPP Forensic Identification Service conducted an investigation into the collision. The vehicle involved in the collision and the vehicle driver has now been identified.

Tyler ANDERSON, a 24-year-old man from Atikokan has been charged with the following offences:

– Criminal Negligence contrary to section 219(1)(b) of the Criminal Code,

– Fail to Remain contrary to section 200 (1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act,

– Fail to Report Damage to Property on Highway contrary to section 201 of the Highway Traffic Act.

ANDERSON is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on January 28, 2020, to answer to the charge. None of the charges have been proven in court.
