THUNDER BAY – A major police presence on McCulloch Street with 11 police units including the K-9 Unit were looking for a suspect earlier today (January 3, 2020).

Initially, Police had blocked off the area from Cumberland Street North to Court Street North from Nelson to MacDougall. Police stated they were searching for a man and awaiting the arrival of the K-9 Unit.

The search narrowed to McCulloch Street and the 500 block of Cumberland Street North.

Police were in the area in significant strength and took a suspect into custody.

The focus then shifted to a property with several buildings on it, and police escorted in Superior EMS and a person was taken out of the building and into the ambulance and taken from the scene.

Police removed a large suitcase and backpack from the scene as well as taking care of a jacket.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a motor vehicle accident on North Cumberland Street as well. It is unknown if the vehicle in that incident is related to the vehicle parked on McCulloch Street.
