Extreme Cold Warnings in Effect for Far North Ontario

THUNDER BAY – Winter is making its presence felt in Northern Ontario this week. Environment Canada has issued Extreme Cold Warnings for the furthest northern parts of Ontario.

Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:

  • Big Trout Lake – Kasabonika
  • Sachigo Lake – Bearskin Lake
  • Fort Severn
  • Webequie

Extreme cold wind chill values of minus 45 are expected overnight into Tuesday morning.

Wind chill values will improve somewhat Tuesday afternoon. However, extremely cold wind chill values of minus 45 are forecast to occur again in some areas overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with the wind chill.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frostbite and hypothermia.
