THUNDER BAY – The status of the City of Thunder Bay’s Fire Chief John Hay is confusing. On Monday, sources told NetNewsLedger that the Chief was not on the job and that he was being replaced.

Following up with a telephone call to the office of the Deputy Chief, NNL was told, “It is business as usual”, and that this was simply not true.

Now there is added confusion.

Seeking additional clarification from City of Thunder Bay Manager Norm Gale, generated this comment: “Chief Hay is away from the office. Deputy Chief Greg Hankkio is the acting fire chief. I have no other comment to make.”

The situation is likely to remain clouded and rumours are likely to fuel the fire until there is more official word.
