Charge of Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle Follows Fatal Accident

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Police Service have laid charges against a motorist who was involved in an October 2019 fatal collision involving a pedestrian.

Police were originally dispatched to the collision on October 17 just after 9:30 pm on Memorial Avenue near the area of 10th Avenue.

An investigation revealed that a couple – a woman in a wheelchair and a man – was crossing Memorial Avenue together. The woman in the wheelchair fell onto the roadway when the couple was in the turning lane and about to enter the southbound center-lane.

The man was about to attempt to assist the woman when a minivan struck her. The woman died from injuries sustained during the collision.

The Thunder Bay Police Service’s Traffic Unit continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident and have since determined there were grounds to charge the driver criminally.

The accused was arrested on the morning of Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

Renee Jennie GRAVES, 28, of Thunder Bay is charged with Dangerous Operation Causing Death, and Breach of Probation x 2.

GRAVES appeared in bail court on Tuesday and was released with a future appearance date.
