Earlier – The Trans-Canada Highway remains, as of 21:00 hrs EST closed due to a major accident near Raith in Northwestern Ontario.
Earlier the Ontario Provincial Police stated, “Highway 17 has been closed from 7:00 p.m. last evening and will be closed for the significant remainder of today.” That closure has continued through the day and now, into the night.
Two semi-tractor trailers collided head on, and led to the highway closure.

There is an alternative route. There is a traffic detour in place from Highway 11 to Highway 622 (exits to Dryden) and Highway 11 to Highway 71 (exits to Kenora).
The OPP have promised that more information will be provided as it becomes available as the investigation is continuing.
