THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – After losing in last year’s championship final of the Keating Westfort Fall Classic Tournament, the Gridlink Atom Queens were a team on a mission this weekend going 4-0 in the round-robin, outscoring opponents 25-0. The Queens would defeat the Neebing Hawks in the Quarter-Finals 9-0 as well as Westfort Maroons in the Semi-Finals 7-0. In the Finals, the Queens took on Dryden White and outshot them by a massive margin but Dryden goalie Zak Pyykkonen kept the game close with his spectacular play. Late in the third period, Olivia Vinet would finally solve the netminder, scoring on a play from Madelynn Moore. Then just 66 seconds later, Ava Hrubeniuk fed Shayla Stokaluk who’d score again for the Queens to extend the lead to two. Queen’s goalie Norah Traer turned away every puck she saw and Kayla Grant added a late goal as the Atom Queens took the game 3-0, winning their second Westfort Fall Classic title in 3 years.
