Thunder Bay Remembrance Day Services – Live from Fort William Gardens

1902

THUNDER BAY – Remembrance Day 2019 – from Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay.

Is Remembrance Day important? Every year growing numbers of people are participating in Remembrance Day activities. Every year there are fewer and fewer veterans from past wars alive to attend. In Thunder Bay, there are three services you can attend. There are a parade and service at Waverly Park on the north side of the city, Fort William Gardens plays host to Remembrance Day Services, and Mount McKay on the Fort William First Nation there is a service.

This is the 106-year mark for the start of World War One, and it has been seventy-four years since the start of World War Two. The number of veterans who served in those two conflicts is slowly dwindling.

Lest We Forget!

In Flanders fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Special Thanks to the Lakehead University Thunderwolves Hockey for sharing their wifi-service at Fort William Gardens for this year’s broadcast.
