TORONTO – SPORTS – The Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team dropped their second game of the weekend 74-45 to the Ryerson Rams in Toronto, ON Saturday night.

“We came to play the first half still making some poor decisions on offence leading to scores off turnovers but we battled hard,” said head coach Jon Kreiner.
The Wolves fell victim to a slow start, finishing the first quarter down 18-8. They found more success in the second quarter, outscoring Ryerson 21-19, however, they were still chasing the Rams 37-29 lead as they headed into the second half.
“Second half we really ran out of steam and failed to play tough defensively,” said Kreiner.
Ryerson dominated the second half, scoring 37 points in the third and fourth quarters, while Lakehead scored 16.
Ryerson’s Stefanija Mrvaljevic lead her team offensively with 14 points, while Marin Scotten made 10 total rebounds to lead the Rams defensively.
Megan Looney led the Thunderwolves with 12 points and 8 rebounds, Lily Gruber-Schulz finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds, and Kielly McDonough found some success from the three-point line, finishing with 12 points.
“Megan and Lily played well together while Kielly really played well in the first half,” said Kreiner.
The Thunderwolves played in front of a crowd made up of over 200 Wolves fans, a combination of families and Lakehead alumni, all thanks to the hard work of the Lakehead Alumni department.
The Thunderwolves will continue the hunt for their first win of the season back at home next weekend when they host the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks.
