THUNDER BAY – Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Grand Chief, on behalf of the Executive Council, congratulates Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on his re-election and looks to the Liberal government to accelerate progress on First Nation’s priorities:
“In 2015 we welcomed the election of Justin Trudeau as the beginning of a historic new relationship between NAN First Nations and the Government of Canada. While significant progress has been made over the past four years, we look to his government to accelerate work on our priorities in health care, education, and infrastructure to close the gap in the quality of life between First Nations people and the rest of Canada. Although it is a minority, we have high expectations of this government and will engage immediately with our federal Treaty partner.”
NAN congratulates elected MPs across NAN territory and northern Ontario including: Patty Hadju, Thunder Bay-Superior North (Liberal); Marcus Powlowski, Thunder Bay-Rainy River (Liberal); Charlie Angus, Timmins-James Bay (NDP); Eric Melillo, Kenora (Conservative); Carol Hughes, Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing (NDP); and Marc G Serré, Nickle Belt (Liberal).
NAN acknowledges Anna Betty Achneepineskum (NDP), a member of Marten Falls First Nation who ran in Thunder Bay-Superior North, and Bob Nault (Liberal) who was defeated in the Kenora riding.
