Investigation into Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision Continues

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Thunder Bay Police Service continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision that took place on the city’s south side Monday evening.

Officers were dispatched to a reported two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Arthur Street and Syndicate Avenue at about 8 p.m. Firefighters were also dispatched.

Officers arrived to find a silver crossover pinned between a light pole and a minivan. Firefighters worked to remove the driver from the crossover, who was pinned in the driver side when first responders arrived.

Firefighters were able to remove the female from the vehicle, and paramedics transported her to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment. The woman later died at the hospital.

The other driver suffered no significant injuries as a result of the collision.

The deceased driver, an 89-year-old Thunder Bay woman, has been identified and next of kin has been notified. No further details are being released about the victim at this time out of respect for the family’s privacy.

This collision is currently under investigation by the Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Unit.
