THUNDER BAY – Strong winds are impacting the City of Thunder Bay tonight as part of a strengthening Colorado Low that has brought heavy rain to the region.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • City of Thunder Bay
  • Superior East

Chances are you already know that rain and wind is ongoing tonight. There have been power outages across parts of the region.

The weather service says, “Rain has moved into the area and will taper to showers by Tuesday morning. The heaviest rainfall is expected to occur between 6 PM and 10 PM EDT. Total rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm are expected.”

In addition, strong easterly winds gusting as high as 80 km/h are likely this evening, particularly close to Lake Superior.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

This area of rain is associated with a strengthening Colorado low that will track into Northern Ontario on Tuesday.
