ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia – In front of an electric crowd inside the Abbotsford Centre, Garrett Green (Meeting Creek, Alberta) went a flawless 2-for-2 to win his career-first PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Monster Energy Tour event, victorious at the Abbotsford Classic.
As one of 10 riders to record a qualified ride in the opening round, the 27-year-old got off to a hot start, winning Round 1 with an 84.5-point trip on Mogely (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle).
The last man to leave the chutes in the championship round, Green continued the momentum, again recording the top marks when he reached the 8-second whistle aboard OMB Legal Issues (Wilson Rodeo) for 87.5 points.
Green’s flawless performance earned him a check for $6,472.54, in addition to 530 Canadian and 170 world points.
As the season winds ever-closer to the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas on Nov. 6-10, Green is now ranked No. 57 in the world, 441.66 points outside of the Top 35.
On the hunt for his first Canadian national title, Green also gained crucial ground in the Canadian national standings. With the Canadian Champion set to earn a $50,000 bonus in addition to the coveted title on Nov. 22-23 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Green cracked into the nation’s Top 10, now No. 7, 1314.58 points behind No. 1 Dakota Buttar (Kindersley, Saskatchewan).
Brock Radford (De Winton, Alberta) finished second to collect $4,526.25, along with 265 Canadian and 90 world points.
First riding Preacher Man (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) for 83.5 points in Round 1, the Albertan remained perfect when he tied for the championship round win with an 87.5-point trip aboard Grey Eyes (Vold Rodeo).
Determined to conclude the year atop the Canadian national standings after finishing runner-up the past two seasons, Radford is now No. 6 in the nation after beginning the event No. 7.
With two events remaining on Canadian soil prior to the 2019 PBR Monster Energy Canadian Finals, presented by Dakota Dunes Casino, Radford trails the top spot by 1,285.83 points.
Third went to Wacey Finkbeiner (Ponoka, Alberta) after he covered Speak Easy (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) for 83 points in Round 1 and Kubota’s Big Orange Tractor (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls) for 86.5 points in the championship round.
He netted $2,036.81, in addition to 153.33 Canadian and 55 world points.
Young gun Logan Biever (Claresholm, Alberta) collected his fifth Top-5 finish of 2019 with a fourth-place result inside the Abbotsford Centre.
Biever went 2-for-2 recording an 81.5-point trip on OMB Full Sleeve (Wilson Rodeo) in Round 1, and an 87-point effort on Uptown Funk (Vold Rodeo) in the final round.
He left the British Columbia event with $1,810.50, and 110 Canadian and 20 world points.
Looking to qualify for his third consecutive PBR Canada Finals, Biever is now ranked inside the Top 20 as the No. 19 man in Canada.
Rounding out the Top 5 was 2018 Abbotsford Classic event winner Jared Parsonage (Maple Creek, Saskatchewan).
After narrowly making the championship round courtesy of a 79.5-point ride on Semi Mental (Vold Rodeo) in Round 1, the Saskatchewan man became the first rider to cover two bulls when he made the 8 aboard Grey Tower III (Vold Rodeo) for 86.5 points.
While he earned an $896.20 payday, Parsonage more importantly gained a crucial 80 Canadian and 15 world points.
Remaining No. 2 in the national standings, the 26-year-old decimated No. 1 Buttar’s lead atop the rankings. After beginning the event 122.51 points back, he is now within a mere 42.51 points of the top spot.
Also on the hunt for his first berth to the broader PBR World Finals, Parsonage inched closer to the Top 35. While he stills holds down the No. 39 ranking, Parsonage is within 126.66 points of the cutline.
For the second time this season, Uptown Funk was the high-marked bull of the event. In his trip with Biever in the championship round the bovine athlete recorded the top marks in earning a 43.5-point bull score.
