THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks 59-44 at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse on Friday, Oct. 18.
“Proud of our teams tough, physical defence tonight,” said Jon Kreiner.
“We struggled on the offensive end and need to continue to move the ball but we really locked in defensively.”
As a team, the Thunderwolves had at 32.3 shooting percentage. They forced 18 turnovers and capitalized on 11 of them.
Lily Gruber-Shulz led the Thunderwolves in scoring with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Right behind her with 11 points was Nikki Ylagan and Tiffany Reynolds.
“Tiffany was super for us tonight on both ends of the floor and Lily gave us some much needed inside scoring. We will now need to get ready for a very tough Winnipeg team tomorrow,” said Kreiner.
With 18 points and 8 rebounds, Haille Nickerson was by far the Sea-Hawks’ best player on the court.
The Thunderwolves will back for more basketball action Saturday, October 19 when they face off against the Winnipeg Wesmen at 5:00 pm at the Fieldhouse.
