Ware Township Home Hit by Gun Fire

THUNDER BAY – WARE Township – The OPP are investigating a serious incident that happened in the area of Auto Road and Ware North Road in Ware Township. This used to be known as 5th Concession Road.

OPP report that shortly before 4:00 pm on October 15, 2019 members of the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a call for service involving the discharge of a firearm in WARE Township.

Mellisa Smart, the homeowner, posted on Facebook, “I got home from work and somebody on a side by side stopped at the end of our driveway and shot our house full of holes, took out windows, just missed me as I was walking towards the window to see who had stopped by when I heard the noise.”

Officers attended the scene and conducted an investigation which is currently ongoing. A firearm was discharged at a residence. No injuries were sustained by the occupants of the residence.

A suspect is a lone person operating a side by side in the area of Auto Road and Ware North Road, possibly headed in the direction of One Island Lake

Members of the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and the Thunder Bay area crime unit have been engaged to assist with the investigation.

There is no further concern for public safety at this time. It is believed that this is an isolated incident.
