THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead Thunderwolves will host a familiar foe this weekend when they take on the Windsor Lancers for two-game set at the Fort William Gardens, with the opening face-off set for 7:00 pm on both Friday and Saturday nights.

The Matchup

Lakehead: 3-2 OUA, 3-4 overall

Windsor: 2-1 OUA, 5-4 overall

Previous results

Lakehead split a road series at Laurentian last weekend as the Wolves fell 5-3 on Friday night before rebounding to edge the Voyageurs 4-3 in overtime on Saturday.

Windsor collected two points in a home set with McGill last weekend as each team recorded a 3-1 win, with McGill taking the first game and Windsor the second.

Series history

The Thunderwolves have beaten Windsor more times than any other OUA opponent with a record of 44-24 versus the Lancers.

Lakehead didn’t fare so well against Windsor last season, however, as the Lancers won two out of three contests.  The Lancers blanked the Wolves 4-0 at the Gardens last October and later handed Lakehead an 8-2 defeat to open a two-game series at Windsor in January.  The Thunderwolves responded with a 2-1 victory over the Lancers the following evening.

About the Lancers

The Lancers return two of their main scoring threats from last season in forwards Ethan Skinner and Alex Friesen, while newcomer Anthony Salinitri is someone to keep an eye on.

Defenceman Kody Gagnon is a presence on the Windsor blue-line and freshman Ryan Barbosa has shown early promise.

Goaltender Jonathan Reinhart is among the best in the OUA and is expected to carry the load in the Lancers’ net this season.
