Update – West Arthur Street Home Fire – 8:15 PM EDT

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – The latest update on the fire on West Arthur Street came in at about 8:15 PM. Here is what we can report now, Thunder Bay Police Service and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue received reports of a house fire in the 1200 block of Arthur Street at about 3:15 PM on Friday, September 27, 2019.

First arriving Thunder Bay Fire Rescue units encountered smoke and fire coming from the second story of the home. A second alarm was called bringing the total response to 6 pumpers, 1 aerial ladder, and the Platoon Chief.

Shortly after Police Officers arrived they observed a male on the roof of the home. The house was fully engulfed at this point. Moments later the male was able to get onto the garage, which was detached from the burning home, and eventually made it to safety.

As of 20:00 hrs, Firefighters are continuing to work toward extinguishing the blaze. People traveling in this area are asked to be cautious as there may still be a significant presence of Emergency First Responders and Police.

The male who was on the roof of the dwelling was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further medical assessment. As of this hour, there are no reports as to his condition.

Firefighters were able to rescue a cat, bird, and rabbit from the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
