ATTAWAPISKAT – Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Adrian Sutherland & Midnight Shine’s debut music video draws attention to the suicide crisis among Indigenous youth. Stunningly beautiful and shot entirely in Attawapiskat – where Adrian was born and raised – I NEED ANGELS has been called “passionate and powerful” and continues to resonate.
Since releasing last winter, it has quietly climbed to over 82,000 views, has been shown at wellness conferences and youth gatherings, and used by teachers as a resource for students.
Adrian Sutherland and Midnight Shine receive regular messages from young people who are finding hope in the video, and from families who have lost loved ones to suicide, and who believe in the message it holds.
The band says, “We are inspired every day by the feedback we have been getting specifically from this video, so we want to continue getting it out there to those who need it most.”
The group asks, “If you are active on Twitter today, and Tweeting about suicide prevention… we’d be honoured if you’d consider sharing I NEED ANGELS with hashtag #WorldSuicidePreventionDay. We are pinning a Tweet to the top of Midnight Shine’s Twitter feed that is available for Retweeting. You’ll find it at www.twitter.com/midnightshineon.”
