THUNDER BAY – ENTERTAINMENT – Consortium Aurora Borealis opens its 41st concert season with “The Mellifluous Cello”, a delightful programme of lyrical as well as flashy works. Cellist Peter Cosbey, who has enthralled Consortium audiences on several occasions, is joined by his wife, pianist Mariko Kamachi-Cosbey. The music, from the Classic, Romantic, and Impressionist periods, includes cello sonatas by Schubert, Debussy and Mendelssohn, Chopin’s Polonaise Brillante, as well as shorter showpieces by renowned 19th-century cellists Popper and Davydov (“czar of cellists”), all being works which well display the amazing capabilities of the instrument.
“His virtuosity is apparent with every stroke of his bow.” –Echo Germanica
