Red Lake OPP Arrest Pair of Impaired Drivers

RED LAKE – NEWS – On August 14, 2019, between the hours of 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm, officers from the Red Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received multiple reports of possibly impaired drivers who had departed from the Balmertown Food Fair grocery store.

Officers located the drivers separately and initiated traffic stops.  Those officers subsequently made a demand for an approved screening device breath sample from the drivers. Both drivers failed and then were arrested for Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired.

The individuals were then returned to the Red Lake detachment for further tests.

As a result of the investigations, Bobby BURTON, 32, of Red Lake & Suzanna QUILL, 27, of Pikangikum, were charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – 80 plus contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

Both individuals were released by way of a Promise to Appear with a court date scheduled in Red Lake on September 19, 2019, at 9:00 am to answer to the charges.

Motorists who drive impaired by alcohol or drugs are subject to drivers licence suspensions, fines, vehicle impoundments, criminal records and increased insurance costs. Please drive responsibly, don’t drink and drive.

The OPP is committed to safety for all who utilize Ontario’s roadways. Members of the public are urged to report Impaired Driving by calling 911 in emergency situations. Complaints of impaired, aggressive or careless driving can also be made by calling 1-888-310-1122.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
