THUNDER BAY – NEWS – A major fire on Simpson Street has destroyed a building and left several people without a home.

The fire has burnt at least one building located at the corner of Simpson Street and Robertson. Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue received the 911 call just before 02:00 am EDT.

As of now, there are no injuries to either building tenants or firefighters.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

This morning Simpson Street between Robertson and Pacific Avenue is closed, Thunder Bay Transit buses are running but are being detoured.

Businesses in the area are reporting they are not sure about what time they will be able to open today. Maier Hardware on Simpson reports “Due to the fire on Simpson Street, we’re not going to be able to open on time. Not 100% sure if we’ll be able to open today at all, but if that changes, we’ll post an update.”
