THUNDER BAY – NEWS – A man was arrested last night and now faces assault charges following an attack on a Thunder Bay Police officer.
Thunder Bay Police Service states that the officer was in the 200 block of Brodie Street after completing an assault investigation just before 10 pm on Monday, Aug. 12.
In a media release, TBPS say “A male pedestrian unrelated to that investigation approached and bumped into the fender of the officer’s cruiser. After identifying himself as a police officer the male attacked him without warning, striking him in the face.”
The male then fled after the officer told him he would be arrested for assault.
After a brief foot pursuit, the male was apprehended in the 100 block of Brodie Street. The arrest was completed without further incident after a brief struggle.
The officer required stitches for a cut on his nose as a result of the assault.
A 23-year-old Thunder Bay man has been charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer, Resisting a Peace Officer.
He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, Aug. 13.
