THUNDER BAY – An assault on Egan Street has one man in custody and another man getting medical treatment at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center.
Thunder Bay Police Service in a media release state that officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Cumberland Street North following reports that a man had been stabbed in the chest just after 5:30 am on Wednesday, July 31, 2019.
When officers arrived they located a victim being attended to by employees of a nearby Tim Hortons restaurant.
Police discovered that the victim was approached by a male who was known to him in the 200 block of Egan Street. An argument followed, at which point the accused male assaulted the victim.
Around the time police were speaking to the victim officers spotted a vehicle, believed to be driven by the accused, heading southbound in the 100 block of Cumberland Street North. Police approached the vehicle, located the accused inside and completed the arrest without incident.
Paramedics transported the victim to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment of his injuries.
A 29-year-old Thunder Bay man is charged with Aggravated Assault and Fail to Comply with Condition Recognizance.
He is expected to appear in court Thursday, Aug. 1. The name of the accused cannot be released until the individual has been before a judge.
