Weather – Heat Warnings Issued for Far North Ontario

Heat Warning

PIKANGIKUM – Hot weather is working its way eastward across the North. A band of high temperatures has been working its way from northern Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. It is now arriving in Northwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for parts of Northwestern Ontario. The weather service reports that the heat event will continue today into Thursday.

A warm air mass will remain over the area today and into Thursday. Daytime maximum temperatures near 29 degrees are expected along with an overnight minimum temperature near 18 degrees, providing little relief from the heat.

Heat Warning in effect for:

  • Pikangikum – Poplar Hill – MacDowell
  • Sandy Lake – Weagamow Lake – Deer Lake

A cooler air mass is expected to arrive Thursday night bringing cooler temperatures for Friday.

Extreme heat affects everyone.

Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.
