THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police have provided the following update on an accident that closed Balmoral Street on Saturday:

The Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Unit is investigating a serious motor vehicle collision that took place early Saturday morning.

Just after 0300 hours on July 20, 2019, a silver Jeep Wrangler was travelling southbound on Balmoral Street when it crossed over the center line and across the northbound lanes of travel. After departing the roadway, the Wrangler struck a hydro pole, causing significant damage to both the vehicle and the pole. The Wrangler then continued southbound into the parking lot of 1201 Jasper Drive, where it struck a parked trailer. The driver of the Jeep was ejected from the vehicle in the process, coming to rest beyond the Jeep’s final position.

The 26-year old female driver was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre where she is being treated for serious injuries.

The Traffic Unit had this portion of Balmoral Street closed for the majority of Saturday, gathering evidence. The roadways have since been reopened. The investigation is ongoing.

Fortunately, no other parties were harmed as a result of this major collision.
