RED LAKE – NEWS – Impaired driving charges were laid in Red Lake by the OPP against two individuals.
On July 13th, 2019 at approximately 11:46 pm, officers from the Red Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol within the Township of Ear Falls. Officers observed a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed & failing to signal on Scott Street. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver of the vehicle was spoken to. The officer made a demand for a breath sample and the driver subsequently failed. The driver was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood and returned to the detachment for further tests.
As a result of the investigation, Cale HAMILTON, 20, of Neebing, was charged with Impaired over 80, contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code, and was released by way of a Promise to Appear in Red Lake court on August 15 at 9:00 am to answer to the charges.
The next day, July 14th, 2019 at approximately 7:24 p.m., officers from the Red Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol within the Municipality of Red Lake. Officers conducted a traffic stop along Highway 105 and smelt an odour of freshly burnt Cannabis emanating from the motor vehicle. The officer made a demand for the driver to complete a Standard Field Sobriety Test. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired operation by drug and was then taken back to detachment to be evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert.
Evan FLETCHER, 20; of Fort Frances, was charged with Operation while impaired – drugs, contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code and was released by way of a Promise to Appear in Red Lake court on August 15 at 9:00 am to answer to the charges.
