THUNDER BAY – Timmins James Bay MP Charlie Angus is having his own person “boil water” advisory. “If they could put a man on the moon you’d think we could get Seamus O’Regan to show up in Attawapiskat and do his job regarding addressing the state of emergency and the need to deal with the water crisis.”
Angus is boiling over after seeing the offer from the federal government to supply bottled water to some of the people of Attawapiskat, “Check out the stingy band-aid being offered by the Trudeau government in hopes this goes away – 1.5 litres of water for the elderly, 1 litre per day for infants, everyone else can get by with contaminated water. This is the value Justin Trudeau puts on the people of Attawapiskat,” charges Angus.
The government will reimburse the community based on receipts for the water, there is no word if the cost of transporting the bottled water to the community will also be covered.
There is a report that Minister O’Regan is sending three to five engineers up to Attawapiskat to look at the water treatment plant.
Attawapiskat Chief Ignace Gull reports, “Minister of Indigenous Services Seamus O’Regan will be arriving on Sunday, July 21, 2019 in Attawapiskat. The Minister called yesterday afternoon announcing his visit and the Public Meeting with take place at Kattawapiskak Elementary School (KES). And Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation will accompany the Minister”.
