Thunderstorm Warning

DRYDEN – WEATHER – Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Dryden and the region stretching out toward Ignace.

The weather service says, “At 1:40 p.m. CDT (1:40 p.m. EST, 2:40 p.m. EDT), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

“This long line of thunderstorms is located from Fort Frances to the southeast of Sioux Lookout and is moving east at 80 km/h across the area. Wind gusts near 90 km/h have been reported within this line in the Fort Frances area.”

Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:

  • Dryden – Vermilion Bay
  • Ignace – English River

Locations impacted include:
Fort Frances, Sandpoint Island Provincial Park, Ignace, Atikokan and East English River Provincial Park.

Severe thunderstorms will be near:
Atikokan around 3:30 P.M. EDT.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
