THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – There is a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING in effect for Thunder Bay issued by Environment Canada.

Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:

  • City of Thunder Bay

This line of severe thunderstorms is located from Thunder Bay area to north of Lake Nipigon, moving southeast at 70 km/h. Wind gusts near 110 km/h along with large hail are expected. There is also a risk of tornadoes.

Locations impacted include:
Thunder Bay, Arrow Lake Provincial Park, Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park, Kakabeka Falls, Silver Falls Provincial Park, Cloud Bay, Dorion, Nipigon, Lake Nipigon Provincial Park, Beardmore, Auden, Ogoki River Provincial Park, Aroland, Saganaga Lake, Remicks and Mackies.

At 4:57 p.m. CDT (4:57 p.m. EST, 5:57 p.m. EDT), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to ping pong ball size hail and heavy rain.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
