DRYDEN – WEATHER – A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Dryden and Vermilion Bay as well as the Ignace and English River areas. The warning was issued at 1:45 AM EDT on Friday, July 12, 2019.

Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:

  • Dryden – Vermilion Bay
  • Ignace – English River

At 12:45 a.m. CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, nickel to ping pong ball size hail and heavy rain.

This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 15 kilometres west of East English River Provincial Park to 50 kilometres west of Turtle River-White Otter Lake Provincia to 15 kilometres southeast of Ingolf, moving southeast at 55 km/h.

Locations impacted include:
Sioux Narrows, Sioux Narrows Provincial Park, Turtle River-White Otter Lake Provincia, Ignace, Sandbar Lake Provincial Park, French Portage, Crow Lake and Butler.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
