KENORA – Greg Rickford the Kenora Rainy River MPP and Minister of Northern Development and Mines and Indigenous Services says that the efforts ongoing to fight fires, and evacuate people from communities in the far north are working well.

In an exclusive interview with the Minister, NetNewsLedger gets the story.

Two of the unsung heroes in this summer’s fire season are Saskatchewan Premier Moe and Ontario Premier Doug Ford.

Minister Rickford explains how at the Premier’s Meetings in Saskatoon a discussion between the two premiers led to the invitation from Saskatchewan for 2000 Pikangikum evacuees to be moved there.

At the time of this interview, earlier today (July 11/19) Minister Rickford reports that eight flights had made it from Pikangikum to Regina.

Minister Rickford also recognized the tremendous effort that Canadian Rangers are making in Northwestern Ontario.
