THUNDER BAY – Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for the region just to the west of Thunder Bay. The weather service says that daytime highs will be in the thirty-degree range.

Heat Warning in effect for:

  • Kakabeka Falls – Whitefish Lake – Arrow Lake

A heat event is expected today and Tuesday.

Today and Tuesday daytime high temperatures are expected to be near thirty degrees and nighttime low temperatures in the high teens, providing little relief from the heat. Humidex values are expected to be in the mid-thirties.

A low-pressure system is expected to move through the area Tuesday night into Wednesday bringing cooler temperatures behind it.

Extreme heat affects everyone

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
