THUNDER BAY / PIKANGIKUM – Evacuations from Pikangikum continue. Members of the Canadian Rangers and the Royal Canadian Air Force are assisting community members in evacuating from the community. Some members of Pikangikum are now able to self evacuate from the community as smoke conditions allow.

Dryden has declared a state of emergency to assist and serve as a hub transportation community.

Some of the evacuees are headed to Thunder Bay. Chief Sainnawap has issued an information update: In order to receive evacuation support (accommodation and/or food), all self-evacuees MUST report to the Valhalla Inn in THUNDER BAY (1 Valhalla Inn Rd, Thunder Bay, ON P7E 6J1). Once there, you must register in the Executive Boardroom on the second floor.

If you decide to stay elsewhere you will NOT be able to benefit from these supports.

For support along the way, you can find food and gas cards in DRYDEN at DRYDEN ARENA (82 Whyte Avenue Dryden, ON P8N 1Z5).

Further updates to follow.
