Missing Youth Located and Returned in Quetico Provincial Park

BASSWOOD LAKE – QUETICO PROVINCIAL PARK, ON – The Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a missing person complaint in Quetico Provincial Park. On Friday, July 5, 2019, officers responded to a complaint of a missing youth on Basswood Lake, a boundary water within Quetico Provincial Park.

The youth apparently intentionally wandered away from his group with the aim of heading further into Canada.

A joint investigation was conducted with members of the Northwest Region (NWR) Emergency Response Team (ERT), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), Ontario Parks, Lake County Sheriff’s Department (Minnesota), St Louis Country Search and Rescue (Minnesota), Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

As a result of this investigation, the youth was located safely and returned to Minnesota without incident.
