PIKANGIKUM – FIRE UPDATE – Community leadership in Pikangikum report that a new, larger fire has started close to the community and has become a threat to the community.

With the changing winds, smoke is expected to reach the community by this evening.

EVACUATION HAS BEGUN FOR ALL VULNERABLE RESIDENTS. This includes families, children, elderly, individuals with medical conditions and pregnant women.

GO TO THE PIKANGIKUM HIGH SCHOOL NOW TO REGISTER FOR EVACUATION.

Three hours ago, two planes were available at the airport to move the most vulnerable. It is important not to wait share the Community leadership.

For those who are thinking of SELF-EVACUATING, be aware that you MUST register at the high school and be put on the official manifest to receive ANY support in terms of food and/or accommodation. Only those evacuating by air will be supported at this time. If you do not register at the high school, you will not receive any support.
