How A/C Units Operate

Central air conditioners have two components: the evaporator and the condenser. The
evaporator coil is located on the main duct junction (plenum) right above the furnace.
The condenser is located on a concrete slab outside the house.

Usually, central air conditioning units are connected to a forced-air distribution system.
This means that the same motor, ductwork, and blower used for heating are used for
cool air distribution through your A/C unit.

When your central air conditioner is on, hot air flows in the furnace through the air ducts.
The hot air is transferred by the blower and converted by the evaporator coil, which then
sends cool air throughout the house. If your air conditioner is working, but your house
isn’t cooled, chances are its a problem with the distribution system.

Both the condenser and evaporator are sealed. Therefore, getting ac repair services in
Toronto should be called for any service beyond cleaning. Your central A/C units need
to be professionally inspected before the start of every cooling season.

However, you shouldn’t let your maintenance end with just an annual checkup. While
you can check on your A/C unit on your own, there are some procedures that can be
done to ensure that your system operates at peak efficiency.

Warning: Before doing any work on an A/C unit, make sure that the power for both the
evaporator assembly and the condenser is turned off.

Most Common Repair Issues
● No Cooling: First, you should lower the thermostat, then inspect the condenser
(make sure it’s not dirty). If you need to clean a condenser, turn off the unit’s
power before proceeding. Then you need to clean out the fins and coils. Keep
debris leaves, grass, and other debris away from the condenser – as the fan will
pull in debris through its metal grating.

● Dirty Evaporator: Take off the taped insulation, then remove the access plate.
Use a brush to clean out the evaporator’s underside. Underneath the evaporator
is a tray that helps pull away from the condensation. Use bleach to prevent
fungus growth on the tray and prevent the weep hole from becoming clogged.

● Limited Cooling: You should check the thermostat first. Then, inspect the air
handler to ensure that the vents are clogged with dirt or dirty. It could be that your
A/C unit isn’t functioning optimally or is too small.

● Condensor Stops Running: First, make sure there is no problem with the power
source. Check for tripped circuits or blown fuses. Then, place your thermostat at
a level where the A/C/ unit’s cooling kicks in. Lower the thermostat by 5 degrees
to ensure that the issue isn’t a faulty thermostat.

Conclusion
There are multiple ways to get your A/C unit repaired. Always take time to inspect the
unit to determine the exact problem. Hire ac repair services in Toronto to ensure that its
working properly and providing cool air in your home!
