Flood Warning Update #2 issued by Lakehead Region Conservation Authority

ThUNDER BAY – WEATHER – The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority continues the Flood Warning for the Lakehead Region including: Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge, Municipality of Neebing, Township of O’Connor and Township of Gillies due to continued high water levels on the Whitefish River and area tributaries.

The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority advises that over 90 millimetres of precipitation has been recorded on the Whitefish River gauge in Nolalu in the last 24 hours; however, higher levels are likely in isolated areas of high intensity precipitation.

TheWhitefishRiverandtributariesintheareaarecontinuingtoriseandwilllikelynotpeakuntil later tonight or tomorrow. Additional precipitation is forecasted over night with the potential for thunderstorms.

Many road washouts have been reported in the rural areas. The public is cautioned to not drive through overtopped roads, and to find alternate routes or alternate accommodations,  if required.

A Flood Warning is issued when flooding is imminent or occurring.

Authority Staff will continue to monitor conditions as part of its flood forecasting and warning program.

This Flood Warning will be updated by 9:00 a.m. Wednesday June 5, 2019.
