Tragic Ending to Search and Rescue in Moosenee

MOOSONEE, ON – A tragic ending to a search and rescue effort. On May 22, 2019, at 4:03 pm, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a missing boater in the area of the Mattagami and Moose Rivers, near the area known as Moose River Crossing, Ontario.

On May 26, 2019, at approximately 1:30 pm, the body of the missing person was located near the shore of Moose Factory, Ontario. The deceased is Jennifer MacDonald, aged 46, of Moose Factory, Ontario.
The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, Aviation Services, Emergency Response Team, Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team, Snow Machine, All Terrain Vehicle and Vessels Enforcement Team and Marine Unit were dedicated to the search.

The OPP would also like to acknowledge the Moose Factory Fire and Rescue, Canadian Rangers, 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron from Canadian Forces Base Trenton and several civilian volunteers who assisted in this search effort.
