Thunder Bay — A Rally will be held outside the Victoria Inn on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at 6:30 pm to coincide with the Town Hall Meeting being held by Mayor Mauro.
McKellar Ward Residents and Lobbyists have over 4000 signatures asking City Council to save Dease pool and have been lobbying for the rebuild since December 2018 when City Council voted to close the pool.
Dease Pool is a little piece of paradise for the children, youth, and seniors who live around Dease Pool and Park and is home to a large number of Indigenous families in the city.
A Resolution putting Dease Pool into the 2020 budget has been shared with Ward Councillor Brian Hamilton but to date, he has refused to help his constituents. Councillor Hamilton is supporting City Administration’s recommendations to offer programming to the youth of the area but to date, no plans have been provided.
In the words of former McKellar Ward Councillor Andy Savela. ”The City of Thunder Bay has a social obligation to the families who utilize and depend on Dease Pool every summer. Please mark the date on your calendars and come out to the rally. Let’s send a strong message to our Mayor that a pool for these kids needs to be put back on his agenda!”
