THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – Thunder Bay Kings were looking for a 1 in the win column in Game 12 of the 2019 Telus Cup preliminary round against Halifax Macs, but would have to settle for a single point, tying the Halifax Macs 1-1 in a much more disciplined hockey game than the previous 3. Kings outshot the Macs 30-26 in the contest and put in 3 periods of solid hockey.
The Kings only had to defend two Macs power plays, one included the first shot of the game, eluding the Kings netminder at 3:46. Eric Vanska was solid the rest of the game-saving 25 attempts on goal. Thunder Bay would send 30 pucks in Jacob Goobie’s direction, the Halifax goalie getting beat on one by the Kings Mackenzie Sedgwick at 12:42 of the 2ndperiod. Kings were unsuccessful on both their powerplays, as well as a 2-minute stint with an empty net at games end for the extra attacker.
The Kings wanted 2 points under their belt heading into Friday’s game with the front running Cantonniers de Magog of Quebec. The game starts an hour earlier at 6:30 p.m.
