Winnipeg Police Dealing with Threats to Officers

WINNIPEG – On March 22, 2019, a Winnipeg Police officer became aware of open source social media posts made by a suspect uttering threats to kill police officers, while at the same time displaying a firearm and standing adjacent to Winnipeg Police Headquarters.

Enhanced security measures were enacted within and around the Headquarters building at 245 Smith Street.

On March 26, 2019, at approximately 9:20 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service Tactical Support Team conducted a high-risk vehicle stop near the intersection of Dufferin Ave. and McGregor St. The suspect male, along with two other adults, were safely taken into custody. Police seized
• A loaded, 22 calibre semi-automatic rifle with a 10 round magazine and the serial number removed
• A loaded, 22 calibre semi-automatic, sawed-off rifle with a loaded, rotary style magazine attached
• A sawed-off, pump-action shotgun

Sean Andrew SPENCE, 25, was charged with:
• Uttering Threats
• 27 separate Firearms offences
Spence was the subject of 3 separate Firearms Prohibitions

He was detained in custody.

Also arrested and charged were:
Jewels Robert Alfred CONTOIS, 24 and Raven Freedom Sky WILSON, 18.

Contois and Raven were each charged with multiple criminal offences including firearms charges, breaches of court orders, and drug trafficking charges related to methamphetamine.
