DRYDEN – Bob Nault, Member of Parliament (Kenora riding), visited the Homeward Bound Housing project in Dryden on Rourke Avenue, which received a federal investment of a $1,190,000.00.
An additional housing project, located on 49 King Street in Dryden, received more than $439,000.00, bringing the total federal government housing investment in the City of Dryden to over $1.6M.
“The bottom line is every Northerner needs a safe place to call home, and the Homeward Bound housing project is one great example of how this government’s Affordable Housing Fund is increasing the number of affordable housing units in the community,” stated Nault. “To have the opportunity to see the impact these investments have on peoples’ lives is a reminder that we have our priorities in the right place by investing in people first.”
The announcement was part of a larger federal government announcement across Northwestern Ontario, which saw investments by the federal and provincial governments of over $14.4 million from the Investment in Affordable Housing fund (IAH) to create 127 affordable housing units. In total, the Kenora riding received over $5.1 million in federal housing investments, creating 53 affordable housing units which will be either built or renovated.
The IAH partners with federal and provincial/territorial governments to provide tailored programming to best address local housing needs. Programs must fit one or more of the following criteria: create new construction, address affordability, improve and preserve quality or, foster safe, independent living.
“More seniors, adults with disabilities, and Indigenous people will now have better access to affordable housing,” concluded Nault. “While we still have work to do, this is certainly a step in the right direction. The more housing we have available throughout the riding, the bigger the positive impact on the lives of residents.”
